The Exile is a duet about the present self and the self stuck in a traumatic memory and was inspired by “The Body Keeps Score” by Bessel Van der Kolk. These two dancers interact with each other and a hanging mobile to show a story of reliving trauma, reliving memories, nightmares, disassociation, and healing. This is important because while trauma is a widespread experience healing from trauma unfortunately is not and this has a large negative impact on our community.
