A Bit About Me

Alana Stubbs saw Ballet West perform The Nutcracker when they were seven years old and on the drive home begged their parents to sign them up for dance classes.  Under the direction of Jennie Creer-King they began their ballet technique training at Central Utah Ballet, eventually switching over to Ballet West Academy. There Alana continued their technique and began to learn pointe and contemporary technique also. On the side Alana also took ballroom classes through their public school in Provo, Utah. In 2016 they moved to Salt Lake City where they attended the Salt Lake School for the Performing Arts where they were introduced to modern dance and choreography. They uncovered their passion for creation and movement while in high school and eagerly performed in every opportunity they could find along with choreographing two group pieces, one of which won an award at the Utah High School Dance Festival.

Alana traveled cross country to attend the Boston Conservatory at Berklee where they received their BFA in Contemporary Dance Performance in 2023. While in Boston they have had the opportunity to perform works by Maleek Washington, Ruka Hatua-Saar White, T. Lang, and Alwin Nikolais. They also have been able to work with Chrysalis Ballet Theater in the production of "Signatures" working with Garrett Smith along with Stonework Productions where they performed the lead role in "The Queen of Nori". Additionally, Alana continues to enliven their training with programs such as the Dance West Festival overseen by Daniel Charon and Linda Smith, and the NOD International Dance Program in Italy with classes taught by Pau Aran Gimeno and Sita Ostheimer.

Alana has created seven separate works performed in the Boston area. These pieces were premiered at venues including the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, the Complex @ Canal, and an original film created in San Juan, Utah. Alana has a love for creating and composing and has been lucky enough to learn from teachers such as Brian McGinnis, Danny McCusker, and Daniel Pelzig.

When Alana isn’t in a studio or on the stage they enjoy canyoneering, climbing, skiing, and backpacking the outdoors with their dog. Being from Utah, the outdoors has always been a large part of Alana's life and they always try to find time to get to the woods and mountains when they can. They also find nature to be one of the largest inspirations for the artistry and love to create movement and improvise within it.
